A Change of Seasons

May 06, 2023

There is a season for everything under the sun. During the time that we traveled in our motorhome we were mostly trying to stay under the sun, and out of the rain, snow, wind, etc. When your house has wheels, you don't have much of an excuse to be in bad weather; just point those wheels towards some place that's nicer.

For the past 6 years, we've been doing just that: spending our summers in interesting places and spending our winters in Tucson, where there's ample sunshine and a community of friends. But now it's time for something different. When we learned that we would be new grandparents, we decided that it might be the time to find a location where we could be closer to Marie and Chris. In the six years that we were on the road, we had visited most of the places that we wanted to see in the US. While we hadn't gotten to Alaska, or the Canadian Rockies, or the Maritime provinces, we had been to most places from Maine to Florida to California to Washington. And skipped most of the flat stuff in the middle.

So this past summer we decided to look for a house, one that was located somewhere interesting where our kids would want to come. We found a nice place on a lake in Michigan, a couple hours away from our new grandchild (born in January), and close enough to Chicago for Peter and Jenai to come for long weekends.

So now begins a new chapter.  We no longer have the Nest on Wheels; we sold the motorhome in February and opted to get a park model in the RV park in Tucson where we have been wintering. And we will still plan to winter there, avoiding snow as much as possible.

We hope you've enjoyed following our travels over the years. The Nestonwheels website will stay up for a while (perhaps years), we might even post an entry or two from time to time, like some overdue Galapagos posts. But we won't be travelling to many new places now. We'll let people travel to us!

  1. Jane and Steve, I have followed your Nest on Wheels with eager interest the last 6 years. Thank you for the pleasure it has brought me personally as I vicariously traveled with you. I hope you'll write a book about your adventures one day! I retired from Tyndale nearly five years ago, and we are loving living in the mountains of western NC having adventures of our own, including two three-month interim pastorates in Norway in 2019 and 2022. I no longer have your email address but would love to stay in touch - mine is MaggieWRowe@gmail.com (website MaggieRowe.com).
